Sourgrapes: A zine of substance
My name is Sam. I help run a zine called SOURGRAPES ZINE
. We're a local zine based in Lexington KY. We focus on teaching kids about D.I.Y. ethics, being posi, and why its important to support local art and music.
I wanted to write not only to introduce our zine to the livejournal zine world! But also to explain our predicament. You see, after a lot of pulling out hair and craziness we've decided to hire on a full-time zine team. We used to be submission based but it was pretty hard on our (then) small team.
So now we're looking for like minded zinesters and punks who support self publication, D.I.Y. ethics, posi beliefs, and who are interested in having some fun creating a great zine and keeping the underground press alive!
We're looking for:
- Record reviewer **
- Zine reviewers **
- D.I.Y. guide writers **
- Survival guide writers **
- Bike Repair guide writers **
- Cover artists (for upcoming covers)
- Cartoonists (full-time strip)
- Proof readers **
- + more!
If you think you could help us out or would like to become apart of our team, we'd love to have you! Write us at SOURGRAPESZINE@GMAIL.COM
or through our myspace: http://myspace.com/sourgrapeszine
Once again we are looking for FULL TIME
writers/artists (which means we will be interested in your submissions for each issue) were poor and cant pay you but we can offer free ad space, zine copies, zine reviews, and whatever Sam can knit you!

Hello, I'm Carina and lately I've found myself burning to write letters.
- I live in New York
- I'm Sixteen ( please don't shy away from feared callowness)
- I once described myself in four words as "painfully-aware. aesthetically-haunted. curious. intricate" ... generally, they still apply.
- I'm greedy for pen pals, I want them from all corners. Write to me! Write to me! Theres a pair of little anticipated fingers waiting on your words

new here, new project - I LOVE MY CITY
i just joined this community, i'm intreagued !!!
i'm an artist based in the uk, i'm making a new project and i need artists to participate.
I will send a piece of new art made with my very own fair hands to people who participate in the project.
heres more info , you maybe interested!!
summary: I LOVE MY CITY: urban identites.
We all have a personal identity with the city in which we live in or near too, weather its a favourite building, street or landmark, personal or unique experience, memory or event, or it's just that we have a love of where we grew up and each individual as their own social history with their home city.
To investigate this further I am calling for people to send me a personal visual representation of their home city in any medium through the post. This could include:
List of words
.....anything goes, any medium.
Each item that is sent to me will appear in an exhibition in February 2007 in Salford, England. Each persons name and location will appear next to the sent work.
If you would like to take part in this project by sending me an item please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for my postal address.
If you would like to send an item that you think will cost a lot to send i can pay you back for the postage once the item has arrived.
Thank you and i hope to hear from you.

seeking a penpal I didn't write back to :(
You were: somewhere in Great Britain, a college student living with friends (and I think majoring in Drama). Female. You joked that you hoped that the cross over the sea hadn't given your letter warts or bugs or anything on the way to me. Claimed that you were from an ethnically uninteresting background. You wrote me some time this summer, probably in July.
I was: the art/English majoring female American college student who didn't write you back!
Dear almost-penpal, I am so sorry that I didn't manage to answer you. It is now months and months later and I can't find your letter or an e-mail with your address in my inbox. I am moving soon and would really like to actually write you back. I don't want to be a jerk!
Please e-mail whisperdryad at gmail dot com if you recognize me.

Snail Mail Zine - Summer Issue
The letter exchange just published the summer 06 issue. This zine is GREAT for finding people who really love to write letters and is organized by subject such as art and photography, philosophy, potluck, and writing to name a few. The most fun section of the zine is called Ghost Letters where you can write to or from your favorite fictious character. The zine also has a middle section with letters to the editor about letters. I've been in the letter exchange for years, mostly exchanging post cards. The price of one issue is $7.50 and a year of 3 issues is $18.00. More information at www.letter-exchange.com or

Hello. You can call me Kate. I'm 20 and currently reside in England. I really like writing letters but I have no one to write to, other than my friends who I live with - It's so unsatisfactory sending letters to the bedroom next door.
I would describe myself, but that's an effort that doesn't seem worth going through. I'll keep it short, long passages scare people.
I'm a drama student. I'm a bit of a neurotic. I like to read, a lot. I'm obsessed with religion, though I'm not religious. I like to muse upon philosophical questions, mostly concerning death. I like to talk just to hear my own voice, but I'm incredibly shy and have few friends.
Have I sold myself to you? I feel like a prostitute.

So, the first time I filled this out I was sort of rushed. I thought I would fill it out again to make people more aware of what I am like, so that more people might want to write. I want to write a paragraph so it flows a little better, but I promise to answer all the questions from the form.
My name is Michelle, my nickname is Catcher. I will be 21 years old on June 15th. I'm Portuguese/Brazilian, but American born. I do not speak Portuguese but I understand it minimally. I'm obviously female, and I'm also a gemini, and I wish I had a twin! I live in the States, (so much for them being united,) I live in Cape Coral, Florida. I just moved here from Rhode Island 3 years ago, this July.
I love Florida, but there are things it can't replace.
Right now I'm addicted to a couple of things, banana peppers, raw salmon, the internet, World of Warcraft, the feeling of always wanting something to do, the feeling that something is missing in my life, my hermit crabs, clothes (I love cotton shirts), text messaging, new Angels and Airwaves cd (I have the whole thing if you want it), House, Law & Order SVU, Curb Your Enthusiasm. I love to sleep, I hate to clean my bedroom, I'm looking to move into my own apartment soon. I have a boyfriend and we are both dorks.
I'm not exactly sure what I would be described as. I think I'm humorous. I miss laughing hard. Only a few people have been able to do that for me in my life so far. I'm quite lazy when it comes to doing things I don't like doing such as cleaning. I always tend to procrastinate school work, cleaning, and other chores for my mother because those are things that make me very unhappy. I prefer, like others I'm sure, to only do things that I feel like doing because that is what makes me happy. I'm very big on making myself a happy person, it's very important. I'm kind of goofy at times, and don't make sense, but I'm a very intelligent person. I'm a fast learner, I love to read, and I want to be a writer. I'm finishing my Associates in Liberal Arts majoring in British Literature, and will be going to school afterwards to be a graphic artist. I hope to write for a magazine or newspaper one day. Kind of like Carrie Bradshaw, but not so glam. I'm a very down to earth type of person. I don't dress up, I wear clothes that fit me and that are comfortable. I love to be comfortable.
All I'm really looking for are long term friendships through snail mail. I really love sending and recieving mail. I hate the fact that no one uses the mail anymore for things besides wedding invitations. I will be able to handle many penpals, because I know I will be able to find time to write back to them. I make sure that my life is not as hectic as others, I like to take everyday things slow and easy. I wasn't really looking to swap anything. I could I suppose, it doesn't really matter. But I think that if I were to become good friends with someone through the mail, eventually I would send them things that reminded me of them, that I saw in my everyday life... and send that. That I like. It also doesn't matter if the person on the other end is a girl or a boy or where they are from (as long as I can understand you!!!). To tell you the truth, I've found out that I get a long with boys a lot easier then girls because I'm not glitz, glam, or dramatic. I just live. But to have more friends that are girls like me would be amazing.
I also think it would be neat to sometime in the future get to know a person well enough to plan trips/road trips to different places, and being able to stay with pals. Such as New York, California, Chicago, I've never been to some of these places and would like to live somewhat adventurously in the future. To just pack a backpack and go with little planning, just for fun. But I wouldn't impose on anyone of course!
I take back the part about not wanting to write first. I don't mind writing first because I don't want to lose a potential penpal over it. (Just excuse the length and content of the first letter!!)
My email address is: email@example.com
If you are interested in writing or recieving a letter from me, you can comment or send me an email. I love getting emails, mail, IM's.

hello (I hope this community is not completely dead)
I'm 22 (nearly 23!), a political science student from Australia. Check out my profile for my info - I think I covered most things that I could think of. I am looking for people who want to send and receive beautiful and thought-provoking postcards at irregular intervals. Maybe not so much a discussion as a mixing of imaginative and inspiring ideas? I'm in India until April, so you could email me your address (alexmoon at mail dot com) and I'll send the first postcard...you can return the favour and then I'll have something waiting for me when I get home, at which point I will send another.

Anywho, intro time!
Hi! Im Andrew, i live in New Hampshire and attend college for graphic design and printing technology (my associates degree). Im into graphci arts, music, reading, life discussions, education, culture, anthropology, human studies, deep conversations, intense conversations, and just all the different shit humans do and why. OH! Im also into human rights, especially gay rights, since i am gay, and it's important to me.
Im in love with figuring out people and knowing how they work, and how i can learn what makes me work/not. Im very into music right now, like, really into it XD
I'd be very interested in doing this pen pal thing! I've never done anything like this before, and it's exciting to think about! Im open to whatever you want to write about most likely, as long as it's intriguing and interesting enough ^_^ hahaha

Art Gone Postal!
(x-posted to several communities interested in mail art)
A friend and I recently started a project that may interest some people in this community. After talking many times about how the postal service can be so fascinating in terms of transportation from anywhere on the globe, and how that pertains to art, we came up with a means for creating an online gallery of sorts for mail art. Called The Envelope Collective
, we've set up an address to collect mail art from all over the world. Every piece we receive is photo-documented and uploaded to the website daily.
I didn't want to start this project without a more over-reaching goal in mind, and so we plan to document these submissions into a book as well. The proceeds from the book will go towards a charity/charities that benefit the arts in some way. There are several that we have in mind, all of which have different goals; the one I am most fond of uses money donated to buy and deliver art supplies to areas where people don't have the means, such as the Middle East and Africa. If the project continues to grow, we do plan to keep putting out books to help these charities.
So far the response has been amazing, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Thanks for listening and happy holidays,

I get enough everyday coversation about people and surface topics.
I'm interested in writing with someone who has ideas and thoughts...a modern philosopher of sorts..not formally, but just someone who looks beyond the superficial things. Censorship is unnecessary - to say everything that is on their mind.
Someone who isn't afraid to be controversial and who is open-minded.
Like the person said below me, something to read over lattes and listening to the rain.

Ohmygoodness if this community is still active, I am so exited about finding it. Here you have me, a writter and letter-enthusiest who's also an artist who is constantly facinated and inspired by Dada art and poetry. Just to lay things on thicker, I even have a layout with pictures of Duchamp right now. Weird ...
I am a nearly-20 year old art (painting/design) and English (writing) major in Massachusetts. I love writing in general, and letter-writing has a certain magic of its own. ( a self-portrait, since I'm having trouble intoducing myselfCollapse )
Right now I'm listening to moveon.org's "Furture Soundtrack for America," a campaign-fundraiser CD for Kerry. Kind of depressing to hear "this will be our year" so optimistically sung, but it's good music. Maybe you can get it on sale now?

I'm 25 and my name is Tazim. I'm from Vancouver, and am an art history major (specifically indigenous art of the americas). I am looking for penpals who are into art and learning, sharing, loving, reading and creating. vegetarians or vegans in north america would be best, as i am a poor student/artist...but anywhere in the world would be swell if you seem interesting. please email me for my address: email@example.com anyone from mexico, by the way? Current Mood: excited
